Description
17" X 18" Watercolor
In describing this painting, the artist commented, "I was impressed by the unique tree forms and the colors of autumn." Indeed, Dergalis’s color palette gives the viewer the distinct impression of fall colors in a New England wooded area, perhaps even at the time of sunrise with his lively use of pinks and yellows in the sky. Yet, this watercolor is truly unique in its execution of gnarled and aging tree forms. On the left side of the dynamic, diagonal composition, the twisting purple branches become almost abstract in their patterning.
George Dergalis graduated with honors from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. His teaching career at The Museum School, The DeCordova Museum, and currently in his private studio, spans forty-two years. Dergalis has exhibited extensively in the United States, Europe and South America, where his works are found in public, private and corporate collections. In 2002, his painting "Anguish" from the Novartis collection was featured in Time magazine.
