Description
30" X 20" Acrylic and Mixed Media
Upon first glance, this piece depicts a tender moment between subject and instrument. Lemieux employs warm, passionate tones in her acrylics, and employs a painterly treatment of skin and guitar, contrasted with the sketch-like quality that can be seen in the subject’s hair. Yet, this deceptively straightforward piece disguises its more confessional subject matter. A text description in the bottom left-hand corner of the picture plane contains a lyric from the Ray Charles song “Drown in my Own Tears,” which reads: “It brings a tear to my eyes, when I begin to realize, I’ve cried so much since you’ve been gone.”
Margo Lemieux has been an artist since the first grade when she got into trouble with her teacher for “decorating” her workbook. After earning a degree in fine arts in painting from Boston University, she worked as a graphic designer, tee-shirt artist, newspaper correspondent, and children's book author and illustrator, among other pursuits. She is currently a professor at Lasell College in Newton. She has also taught at the Attleboro Arts Museum and the Rhode Island School of Design. Margo holds an M.Ed. in Integrated Arts Curriculum from Curry College, a BFA from Boston University and an MFA in printmaking from UMass Dartmouth. In addition to printmaking, Margo paints in oil, watercolor and acrylic and has a strong interest in handmade books.
