Description

24" X 20" Oil on canvas

The artist comments on this piece: "I love the beach. I sense the peace and the feel of nature all around me. I've experienced Cape Cod al my life and dune roses have always fascinated me. Such beautiful growth in all that sand." Wrightington executes this picturesque beach scene with whimsical detail. The foreground is dominated by playful coastal overgrowth: diagonal strokes of green grass and pops of pink flowers interplay with the vertical lines of gray fence posts. This lively bedlam then gives way to serene rolling sands and a hint of the ocean in robin’s egg blue in the background. This pleasant beach scene is bursting with life, yet gives the viewer that feeling of tranquility that is felt by the sea.

Marian Wrightington started painting after moving into one of Attleboro's oldest houses. She loved painting older styles and studied with a number of local artists. Coming from a long line of New Englanders, Marian feels deeply connected to an earlier era. Her objective is to preserve her heritage while sharing nature, history and antiques, along with her art.
