The artist describes the subject of her painting as "Cape Cod Light, the lighthouse, a fortress in time of need, giving light and beauty all times of the year." Towle presents this New England icon bathed in fresh light as the focal point of the piece. In the foreground, heavy brushstrokes give the flowery landscape a soft, impressionistic feel, as the meandering lines of the brown path lead the eye upward and back to the lighthouse building. The robin’s egg blue skies depict the New England weather we long for during cold winter months: just a few wispy clouds on a clear summer’s day.

Roberta Towle is a Still Life and Portrait artist who lives in Milton, MA. She has studied at the R.H. Ives Gammell studio, which carries on the Boston tradition of classical realist painting. Roberta has been artist-in-residence at the Copley Society of Boston and has exhibited at museums all over the East Coast, including the MFA Boston, The League of Artists in New York and at the Arts Affair Marina Bay.
