In “Spring,” Oulette achieves texture through a strong brush stroke and heavy application of paint. This helps the viewer to interpret depth more effectively – the long, flat strokes of Kelly green grass push forward, while the voluminous purple flowers are characterized by small dots, and fade into a deep eggplant in the background. The background is especially notable, with its murky color palette of purples, blues, and greens, which almost convey a spring morning fog.
