Description
19" X 28" Acrylic on board.
This abstract piece takes a geometric approach to acrylic painting. Through a rectangular grid, the viewer may see snapshots of what lies “behind” gray paint. Through the interplaying tans, oranges, and purples as well as the complex textures of the piece, Slobogan creates an intriguing sense of depth – and perhaps a glimpse into another world.
Matthew K. Slobogan has been an artist and an art lover his entire life, not to mention an accomplished musician. At 34, Matthew has worked as a Screen Printer, a Sign Maker, a Graphic Designer and a Drum Teacher. Most recently, Slobogan is the proud Owner of The Preservation Framer, southeastern Massachusetts’ premier Custom Frame Shop and Art Gallery.
Matthew’s admiration for art, music, and the symbiotic relationship between the two is reflected in his work. While listening to Miles Davis or Art Blakey and reflecting upon the works of Jackson Pollack or Jasper Johns, fresh ideas are welcomed and boundaries are stretched.
We Disagree is an abstract representation of the tension underlying our society concerning its political and moral views. The first stages of the painting were built layer upon layer, and designed with a natural tension reflecting argument and disagreement. The final graphic layer symbolizes control and order with both symmetry and balance serving as the proverbial net holding back the chaos.
