Description
Oil on Canvas, 17" x 21" framed. 2009.
Painter Jim McManus uses color, motion and texture to create artworks that are complex, improvisational compositions.
Reflecting on memories, observations and our common experiences, he seeks to bring to the surface the underlying essence of personal events. His paintings are physical, colorful representations of the moods connected to these events, expressing excitement or calm, drama or subtlety, warmth or discomfort, joy or melancholy through paint and gesture.
His work has been exhibited locally and nationally and is held in private collections around the country.
Jim grew up in Texas and moved to New England to study art at Wesleyan University. Before settling down in Concord, he lived in Boston, Singapore, Portland, Maine and New York City. In addition to pursuing painting over the years, he has worked as a designer, art director, creative director and consultant for several of the world’s leading publications and corporations, including the New York Times, Newsweek and Fortune magazines.
