Description
21" X 22" Pastel, matted and framed.
This piece is inspired by the unique contrasting light one may experience in a shaded area on a sunny day. The right side of the picture plane is immersed in deep shadow, while center left is bathed in bright yellows and greens. The pastel captures the appealing textures of crosshatched grass as well as a wispiness in the sky and trees. Whelan-Nelson’s brisk stroke of the pastel as well as her use of diagonal line allows for movement in the composition, as the viewer’s eye wanders off toward a hint of the sea.
Cynthia Whelan-Nelson is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design who has exhibited her work both locally and internationally. Her art can be found in numerous private and corporate collections. She is a member of the Art League of Rhode Island. Cynthia was one of the 8 Visions artists for 2009 at the museum and participated in the recent Art League of Rhode Island member show.
