Becker communicates a poignant subject matter in this stunningly executed watercolor. The subject’s striking features and ‘sad’ expression are the focus of the piece, achieved through a skilled layering of paint layers. What results in her skin and hair is a complex mosaic of color, so the viewer may feel her sorrow – especially in her watery, reflecting eyes and slightly parted lips.

Rosette Becker has a PHD is Biophysics.  Born in Belgium, she has lived in Finland, California and Israel.  She now resides in Sharon, MA.  She returned to her first love in 2000, painting: she proceeded to recreate her family history in portraiture.  In 2008 she turned to abstract work for a creative release.  Rosette is the 2009 president of the Sharon Creative Arts Association.
