Description
14" X 18" Watercolor
In Summer at Slater Park, Sumner depicts a scene of two gentlemen playing bocce in the park. The subject matter itself is endearing to the viewer, while simultaneously the artist displays his talents in watercolor. He brings a strong stroke to the piece, evident in the horizontal lines representing black shadows and pale green grass. The bocce players are concentrated on the left side of the picture plane, allowing the viewer’s eye to focus on the lone ball to the right, which has just been played.
James Sumner is a self taught artist who specializes in bird carvings. He has won numerous ribbons for his carvings in exhibitions. James has a hard time parting with his bird carvings and only creates them for family and friends and exhibitions. James also creates ceramic pieces he hand paints and fires, himself.
