This is a complete, ready to run B&O Lafayette HO train set by Bachmann Industries (#00628). As an authorized Bachmann dealer we can guarantee this item is brand new and has never been opened or used. This is a faithful reproduction of one of America's most revered trains and which was one of Baltimore & Ohio's first 4-2-0 locomotive. Also known as the "One Armed Billey", the Lafayette train set is perfect for history buffs or anybody looking for a unique HO train set!
The United State's first Common Carrier railroad, the Baltimore & Ohio, was established on July 4, 1828 by that last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence Charles Carroll. The 4-2-0 Lafayette was a true original in the rail industry - its innovative horizontal boiler gave the Lafayette a unique shap which would become the standard on future locomotives. Through meticulous research, Bachmann has produced as accurate reproduction as possible since there are no known photographs of the Lafayette's passenger cars. The Lafayette was retired in 1863 after three decades of service. Here are some of the features of Bachmann's replica:
