Description

This photograph is of the Courthouse of the Myrtles and Hall of the Ambassadors in the Alhambra Palace and Fortress of the Moorish Nasrid Kings of Granada in 14th Century Spain.

This 1930s picture, a genuine color hand-tinted gelatin silver photograph is a solemn tribute from the Library of Dr. Rafael Garcia-Duarte Salcedo, Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Granada and Elected Member of the Court of the Second Spanish Republic. Victim of Franco’s fascist regime, he was assassinated by firing squad in the Summer of 1936 in Granada – as was Federico Garcia Lorca.

This piece is in memory of Poet Federico Garcia Lorca and all the intellectual and artistic free-thinkers of Spain who died. The 2009 cast of the Cincinnati Opera production of Ainadamar autographed the mat surrounding this photograph.
