Canada-France-Hawaii - Mauna Kea Telescope Tour With Dinner - Four People

Item Number: 158
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
The summit of Mauna Kea, the world's tallest mountain if measured from its base on the ocean floor, is the best place on earth for astronomical observations because its mid-Pacific site is near the equator and because it enjoys clear, pollution-free skies and pitch-black nights with no urban light to interfere. That's why Mauna Kea is home to the world's largest telescope -- but the stargazing from here is fantastic even with the naked eye.
Special Instructions
Certificate entitles up to four adults (16 years and older) to a tour of the CFHT headquarters in Waimea, dinner at the mid-level facility on the slopes of Mauna Kea followed by a sunset tour of the Canada-France-Hawaii observatory.
Warm clothing is essential for the visit to Mauna Kea. The air at the summit is very thin so children under 16, pregnant women, and people with respiratory, heart, or severe overweight conditions are advised not to go higher than the OCIA Visitors Information Station (9,300 feet above sea level). Scuba divers must wait at least 24 hours after their last dive before traveling to the summit of Mauna Kea.
