Description
A real conversation starter, this piece of art will make a wonderful decoration in the home of any true blue blues fan.
Created in 1990 by Ralph Hughes (one-time bandmate of Mose Allison), this 30" x 40" glass-enclosed framed piece features a map of Mississippi and iconic symbols in the development of the blues, including a glass bottleneck guitar slide, a harmonica, a Mose Allison 45, old photos and lyric sheets and much more.
Ralph Married Mose's cousin and was the guy responsible for turning Mose on to Jazz when they were teenagers. Ralph was a couple of years older that Mose and they both lived in the Delta. Later both Ralph and Mose moved to NYC. Be sure to click on the photo of the Mose Quartet from the 50s. Ralph is the guy holding the trumpet.
Also, in Mose's song Was he mentions "will there be any Susans and Ralphs, looking at old photographs..." Mose is referring to this Ralph, his best buddy in life.
One of only two such pieces created by Hughes, this item was donated to KXCI by John Allison. Slightly shopworn.
This item can be viewed in person in the KXCI Membership Office, weekdays 10-4, open Wednesdays to 7pm.
