Description
Eastern Sierra Getaway:
Seize this opportunity to escape to the serene beauty of the eastern slope of California’s Sierra Nevada. The Owens Valley features several of the tallest peaks in the Sierra, many of which tower over the small, historic town of Lone Pine. Hiking trails, fishing holes, and plenty of colorful historic tales abound in this “Little Town with Lots of Charm”.
You will learn the story of Hollywood's fascination with the region on an exclusive guided tour of the Alabama Hills, lead by local historian, Chris Langley. As director of the annual Lone Pine Film Festival, executive director of the Beverly and Jim Rogers Museum of Lone Pine Film History, and the acting Inyo County Film Commissioner, Chris will take you on a journey to numerous local Hollywood film locations. You will stand right where movie icons such as Gene Autry, John Wayne, Gregory Peck, and Mel Gibson (to name only a few) were captured on celluloid in hundreds of classic movies. Chris will also provide a guided tour of the Lone Pine Film History Museum, where you will learn more about the rich cinematic legacy of the area and where you will also be treated to a gift basket of books and memorabilia celebrating this history.
This package also includes a 2-night stay at Lone Pine's renowned Dow Villa Motel, "Where the Stars Stay". The Dow, itself, has a remarkable history and continues to be a cozy place to relax. After a busy day exploring the natural wonders of the region, you'll enjoy a soothing fine dining experience, courtesy of a $100 gift certificate for Lone Pine’s award-winning restaurant, 'Seasons'. Finally, you'll cap off your visit with a very unique experience; an aerial tour of the Owens Valley, provided by local business owner and pilot Lynne Bunn. This bird's eye view opportunity affords a breathtaking perspective of a region that is brimming with natural beauty.
