Born in Belgrade, Serbia in 1946 and studied architecture and scenography until he moved to France in 1971.  He has worked in copper plate engraving, leaded glass, calligraphy, miniatures on wood panels, Laque de Chine and computer painting, in addition to oil.

In l984 he moved to California and opened a second school to teach traditional etching, then opened a third in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico in 1991.  After many years of research he developed a new colored etchings process called copperplate engraving aquatint.

Exhibitions of his work have been mounted in France, Serbia, Germany, the Netherlands, Mexico, Canada, Japan and the United States.  Spalaïkovitch returned to France to live in 1998.
