The atmosphere: Reflects the funky, offbeat, yet upscale side of Boulder. The building was originally a horse barn. Floors are 100-year-old warped wood. Walls are exposed brick and aluminum. Instead of traditional styling stations, West End has oversized mirrors, so you feel like you're at a girlfriend's house getting your hair did. Feels like a mod mom-and-pop shop. If it were a coffee shop, I think it'd be Bookends Cafe on Pearl Street.

The philosophy: "We are the only true Boulder salon left, I think," Trevino says.
