The Oakville District is renown for its Cabernet and produces wines that are full, lush and very elegant. The Merlot is grown on new plantings in Oakville and at Groth's Hillview Vineyard, south of Yountville, where Merlot develops a wonderful earthy firmness that blends gracefully with Cabernets from Oakville. In 2001 these sites produced fruit that is even more spectacular (and age worthy) than in past vintages. Lots of black cherry flavor, creme de cassis and a lush, rich mouthfeel make this tempting now as well as very age worthy ? drink over 10-15 years.
