At last Novato has its own Indian restaurant: Anokha Cuisine of India, located downtown on Grant Avenue. Anokha is the latest addition to two other fine Indian Restaurants in Marin. Owner Surinder "Pal" Sroa, owns the award-winning Lotus Cuisine in San Rafael and Café Lotus in Fairfax. Pal has been a resident of Novato since 1987 and feels privileged to be able to open an Indian restaurant in his home town.

Anokha Cuisine of India in Old Town Novato features the warm, full flavors of contemporary Indian cuisine, prepared from personally selected, locally grown, and organic products when available. Fresh spices, many imported directly from India, are specially blended at the restaurant.

The generous menu of delicious Indian food includes vegan and vegetarian delicacies. Specialties include Tandoori dishes (cooked in a cylindrical clay tandoor oven). Anokha also features vegetarian, lamb, seafood or chicken curries. Appetizers are served with house-made hot green mint sauce, or sweet tamarind sauce, and the restaurant serves nine varieties of Indian breads.

Foods can also be prepared according to particular tastes or needs — gluten-free or with varying degrees of spice and oil.
