Fish for Giant Rockfish on the Chesapeake Bay on the 'Gooch'

Item Number: 331
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
An exhilarating day out for three people to fish for beautiful, giant, rockfish with Daniel Steinkoler, an experienced Captain and Wesley Heights resident with over 20 years fishing experience. You will be on board “The Gooch” - placed 15th in 2007 MSSA Maryland State Rockfish tournament with a fish that was 48.5 inches and almost 50 pounds!!!!!
The trip will take place in April or May during the sea run rockfish spawn. The large ‘cows’ come up the Chesapeake to spawn each year and are available to catch for about 8 weeks before they set are off on their migration down to North Carolina and back again to spawn-a truly amazing fish!! They spawn in the same rivers and/or tributaries in which they were hatched.
The trip will leave from Deale Maryland, Shipwright Harbor which is about 45 minutes from DC. You have the option to drive their with Daniel or follow him from his house on Klingle Street. It will be a daylong fishing trip, Daniel will supply all the fishing gear and drinks, all you have to do is pack the picnic!
A conservationist, Daniel returns most fish to the sea - but only after a few pictures if they are the big ones!! He will allow one or two 'keepers' for people’s first trip as these fish can literally be the fish of a lifetime.
"The Gooch" is pictured on the left.
Special Instructions
Expires August 2010.
Limited to 3 people. Children should be aged 12+ as it can get quite rough on the bay at this time of year.
Fishing is very good (typically) from beginning of April to mid-May (season) and this is the time to go if you want a chance to catch a 'big' one! If someone would like more of a fun family trip for the small light tackle we can do the trip over the summer
