Description

Château Angelus' 1996 vintage saw the château's elevation from Grand Cru to Premier Grand Cru status (in the 1955 Saint-Émilion classification) - a rare and highly commendable honor only bestowed upon a handful of estates that have made considerable progress since the classification's inception. Angelus is one of the most prestigious producers in the entire Saint-Émilion district – a name synonymous with crafting voluptuous Bordeaux.

The estate boasts a wonderful terroir, comprising 23 hectares of south-facing slopes, which is married with the talents of the current owners Hubert de Boüard de Laforest and Jean-Bernard Grenie, plus the legendary Bordeaux consultant winemaker Michel Rolland.

Reviews...“Saturated ruby-red. Expressive, floral aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, toffee, licorice and chocolate; suggests an almost roasted ripeness. Chocolatey and very dense in the mouth; rather tightly wrapped today but still much broader than the '97. Finishes very long, with substantial tongue-coating tannins. Powerful and impressive for the vintage.” Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
