Description

This is an original black and white photograph of Dr. Martin Luther King.  It was taken by former UPI and San Francisco Chronicle photographer Larry Tiscornia on January 14, 1968 at the Santa Rita Prison Farm in Alameda County, CA.  Dr. King came to Santa Rita to visit folk singer and anti war protestor Joan Baez.  Baez and more than 200 protestors were arrested during the Christmas week in 1967 for blocking the doorways of the Army Induction Center in Oakland, Ca.  The demonstrators were sentenced to 20 days at Santa Rita for their civil disobedience.  Dr. King was accompanied by Andrew Young Jr. (to the left of Dr. King in the photograph) trusted aid to Dr. King and former Atlanta, GA, mayor.  The photograph was taken with a Nikon 35mm camera with Kodak Tri X black and white film.  The original 35mm negative has been scanned at 5184 X 3360 pixels. The image has been slightly cropped and is professionally printed on borderless Fujicolor Crystal Archive 8" X 10" glossy paper. The copyrighted photograph is signed on the back by the photographer.
