Description
Cain Vineyard & Winery overlooks St. Helena from the top of Spring Mountain in the western hills of Napa Valley. The estate vineyard is planted to the five classic Bordeaux vatieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. We make three wines: Cain Cuvee; Cain Concept, representing the classical benchlands of Napa Valley and our signature blend, Cain Five.
2005 Cain Five
The 2005 Cain Five shows an emphasis on the palate feel: the texture of the tannins is extremely fine, yet distinctly present, like silk. The aromas are of fresh red cherries and exotic spices. It is gratifying to see how well this wine evolves in the open glass, which bodes well for the future. Today, you should decant the wine, and sip it carefully. Very very meticulous winemaking goes into this wine, including: hand picking, gentle destemming, native-yeast fermentation, and manual pressing. The wine completes malolactic fermentation in the barrel, is blended early, is racked barrel-to-barrel, is egg-white fined, and is bottled without filtration.
2005 Cain Concept
Cain Concept is a Bordeaux-style blend - Cab Sauv (58%), Merlot (18%), Cab Franc (17%) and Petit Verdot (7%) from the people who brought you Cain Five and Cain Cuvee. The fruit comes from Napa's benchlands to the east and west. The resulting wine is just what you'd expect - powerful and generous - loaded with dark black fruit, espresso, black tea, dark chocolate and hints of spice. Firm now for those who want a wine with grip, but built to age and mellow with time.
