Garden City Chamber of Commerce
Garden City Chamber of Commerce Pineapple Ball
This Garden City Chamber of Commerce Pineapple Ball Online/Live Charity Auction will run from April 4, 2011 to May 11, 2011, with the live event taking place on May 13, 2011.
The Auction is one of the primary vehicles that the Chamber uses to raise money for its Foundation, as well as helping to fund the charitable activities that it pays for during the course of the year.
The Foundation is an organization within the Chamber whose mission is: ”To assist community members in need and to award scholarships to deserving Garden City High School students”

This is a very special auction in the following respect: The online portion of this auction will close on Wednesday May 11, 2011 10:00pm. It will then re-open live the following Friday May 13, 2011 at 7:00pm, at the 2011 Garden City Chamber of Commerce Pineapple Ball at The Garden City Hotel in Garden City, NY.
The live portion of the auction will remain open for 3 hours and then close for the last time at the event that evening at 10:00pm.
ALL ONLINE BIDDERS HAVE THE ABILITY AND OPPORTUNITY TO PLACE PROXY BIDS DURING THE ONLINE PORTION OF THE AUCTION. This means that online bidders may make secret high proxy bids (higher that the highest bid made during the online portion of the auction.) That proxy bid will then be placed in the hands of our very trustworthy and capable Auction Manager (me) and, as higher bids are made during the live portion of the auction, the proxy bids will be placed on that bidder’s behalf (by me) until either the proxy bidder wins or someone at the live auction outbids the proxy bidder's highest bid.
For example, assume that you bid $100 for Item X during the online portion of the auction and that your bid of $100 is the highest bid at the close of the online portion of the auction. Let's also assume that you would really like to win Item X and are concerned that you may be outbid by someone at the live portion of the auction. Finally, let's assume that, although you really want Item X, you do not want to pay more than $160 for it. In this example you would make a proxy bid of $160.
At the opening of the live portion of the auction Item X would open with a minimum bid of $110 (your last bid of $100 plus the $10 minimum increment.) If a live bidder cast a bid of $110 I would then bid $120 on your behalf. If no one else bid again you would be the winner at $120. If someone else then bid $130 I would then place a bid on your behalf of $140. If no one else bids again you would be the winner at $140. If someone else then bid $150 I would then place a bid on your behalf of $160. If no one else bids again you would be the winner at $160. If someone else then bids $170 I would place no further bids on your behalf because the bidding exceeded your proxy bid.
I encourage you all to bid on these extremely interesting items. Remember, it's all for a good cause so keep on bidding for good.
Your Auction Manager
David Gross
