Bid Wild to Save State Parks - Summer 2011
Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods' Summer Online Auction
June 24, 2011 to July 6, 2011
The online portion of our Summer Auction ended at 8:00 pm on July 6th. It's not too late to BID WILD. Purchase tickets to our wonderful Gourmet Hike on July 9th at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve in Gueneville. A live silent auction will conclude our Summer Auction. The same auction items will be available for continued bidding. If you have absentee bids they will carryover to this event.
Tickets for the Gourmet Hike are available online until 5:00 pm on Friday, July 8th. After that you will need to purchase tickets at the event. Please check our website for availability.
If you prefer to just attend the Silent Auction, you are welcome to come to the Armstrong Redwoods historic Forest Theater from 2:00 until 4:30 when the silent auction will end. Parking and shuttle service are provided.
Our State Parks are again threatened with closures. Austin Creek State Recreation Area, an exquisite wilderness area that serves 200,000 people a year is on the closure list.
We are offering a number of wonderful and unique items in our summer online auction.
Funding will help support our efforts to preserve the natural and cultural resources in our state parks through education and stewardship programs. In addition, Stewards is looking at the feasibility of keeping Austin Creek and areas of Sonoma Coast with closed campgrounds and day-use areas open.
The online portion of the auction will run through July 6 at 8pm and then a live "Silent Auction" will take place at a our Annual Gourmet Hike on July 9th in the Armstrong Redwoods Forest Theater from 2:00 to 4:30 pm. You do not need to be a Gourmet Hike Participant to attend. Watch for Parking Signs - shuttle provided.
Absentee Bidding is available for online bidders on July 9th. Be sure to update your absentee bids before the online auction closes on July 6th. We will assign someone to bid for you and you can still win that sought after item.
We worked hard last year!
Stewards worked very hard in 2010 to pass Proposition 21 and to our disappointment it was not accepted by a majority of voters in California. None the less, our support network grew and with your help we will continue to fight for our State Parks.
70 State Parks slated to close by July 2012 - we are doing everything we can to keep this from happening.
In addition, Stewards recruits and trains docents through our Docent and Community Education field seminar series.
Docents and Volunteers provide services for tens of thousands of park visitors each year. Stewards supports 400 active State Parks volunteers who offer education and stewardship opportunities in our parks.
