John W. Nick Foundation was founded 15 years ago (November 9, 1995), in memory of John W. Nick, who died from breast cancer, at the age of 58.  JWNF is the oldest Male Breast Cancer Foundation in the world. It was 20 years ago, in 1991, that Nancy Nick promised her father she would tell the world "MEN Get Breast Cancer Too!" Through her hard work, and that of a dedicated Board of Directors and countless volunteers, the world is hearing that exact message: "Men Get Breast Cancer Too!!" Breaking News from Nancy Nick: It has been 20 years, and I finally know why my father died from breast cancer at the age of 58. Contributing Factors: His mother had breast cancer; hereditary unknown Jewish DNA (discovered three months ago through familytreedna.com; hereditary hemochromatosis; gynecomastia; estrogen positive. This led to Paget's Disease breast cancer, which spread to his bones. John passed away June 11, 1991, from a disease he and his family thought was for "Women Only." (Dr. Robert A. Gardner, Palm Beach Breast Specialist, confirmed my research.)

Items of Importance:

  • The Few, The Proud, The Forgotten:  Mike Partain was born at Camp Lejeune, NC, and was diagnosed with male breast cancer in June 2007.  He began looking for other men from Camp Lejeune with breast cancer and to date has found 70 men.
  • From Our Guestbook: Elaine Bonnell writes: "We have an awful family history of breast cancer. It has taken the lives of my great grandmother, my grandmother and her sister, my mother and her younger sister. My surviving aunt has had it twice. In March '09 I was diagnosed, and a week later, for the second time, my brother was diagnosed - this time with stage IV. I cannot believe the number of people who never knew, until I tell them, that men even get breast cancer. It's a horrible disease whether in  men or women."

Sincerely,

Nancy E. Nick, Founder, President, CEO
