Description

Cogmed Working Memory Training is an evidenced-based program designed to strengthen working memory and improve attention in children, adolescents, and adults. Working memory is the ability to keep information in mind for a short period of time in order to perform complex tasks. It is a key factor in intelligence and is critical to thinking, learning, staying focused, remembering instructions and starting and finishing tasks. Cogmed Working Memory Training is an evidenced based intervention that was developed by a team of neuroscientists and uses computer technology. It is supported by strong scientific research. The training is computer based and can be done at home.

The complete program includes an initial interview, a start-up session, five weeks of training with weekly coaching calls, a wrap-up meeting, a six month follow-up interview, access to the Cogmed Training Web and Cogmed Extension Training.

Over the five week period, the user will have 25 training sessions of 35-45 minutes.  A Cogmed qualified coach will lead the training, track results and give support.

The dramatic impact of cognitive training has been documented in numerous research studies and across thousands of clinical users. For many years, working memory was assumed to be a static characteristic in each of us. A recent scientific breakthrough has, however, proven that working memory can be expanded and improved through targeted training. The concept of neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to change and rewire itself, is what allows Cogmed to effectively alter the way the brain functions, and increase working memory. It is by no means a "quick fix”, like any training, it requires hard work and perseverance. Those who put the most into it get the most out of it. Users who complete Cogmed Working Memory Training report that they experience:

•	Stronger ability to start and complete tasks
• Greater confidence
• Better time management skills
• Improved reading comprehension and math achievement
• Stronger word finding ability
• Improved ability to shut out distractions
• Better complex thinking
• Improved skills in organizing and prioritizing activities
• Better ability to focus leading to academic and professional benefits
• Improved social skills
