Annotation:
A collection of 17 simple recipes for young children to prepare with adult supervision. Illustrated with colorful drawings.Acclaimed adult cookbook writer Mollie Katzen (author of THE MOOSEWOOD COOKBOOK, THE ENCHANTED BROCCOLI FOREST, and STILL LIFE WITH MENU) and child education specialist Ann Henderson offer an ingenious children's cookbook with 19 simple but healthy recipes "to enable very young children to cook as independently as possible under the gentle guidance of an adult partner." The format involves two double-page spreads per recipe. The first spread (for the adult) features a list of the ingredients, an adult version of the recipe, and some safety caveats. The second spread, aimed at the child, features the recipe in picture form with a few very simple words, starting with "Beginning" and ending with "Eat!" With adult supervision for safety, the child becomes the lead chef. Children's comments appear at strategic intervals: "I thought it was going to be gross, but it turned out good!" The healthful vegetarian dishes include quesadillas, popovers, "Number Salad," noodle soup, and "Hide and Seek Muffins."
