Half Day Guided Walk in Cooperator's Forest or Orchard

Item Number: 130
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
This half-day guided walk will take place in West Corinth Vermont. Date and time can be arranged with Dan Bresaw.
Dan is the forest manager for the Lost Meadow Land Coop and a co-founder of the Orange County Headwaters Project.
A half-day's guided walk in a West Corinth, Vermont (in the middle of the Orange County Headwaters Project, a prime conservation area) Land Coop's 600-acre forest. The land has been managed for timber, wildlife, and recreation, planning timber harvests and stand improvement, creating wildlife openings through NRCS cost-sharing practices, developing trail and road systems, etc. “We have an excellent management plan supervised by Redstart Forestry, our partners in everything, although I'd be offering this strictly from a landowner's perspective.”
Another option is an orchard tour. “We've been developing a fruit tree orchard (mostly apples and pears) in the vicinity of the houses, expanding it over the last 6 years to about 45 trees currently.” Focus would be the problems any beginner would face in establishing an orchard--researching varieties, planting techniques, fencing, pruning and training trees, pest management, etc.
