Turning Around Ministries (TAM) is a faith-based prison aftercare/community outreach

organization, located in Newport, Rhode Island, that offers hope to the hopeless. Our mission is to help underserved people in Newport County, primarily ex-offenders and those recently released from prison, but also homeless individuals, and individuals with legal/social/behavioral issues to live successfully in our community.

TAM began in 2005 as a prison aftercare ministry. However, due to the substantial needsin Newport County, it soon evolved into a multi-service community outreach program. What had started as a ministry to ex-offenders and reentry populations expanded to include, not only the family members of these populations, but other disadvantaged populations.

In December 2008, TAM opened its Day Center to offer walk-in clients an array of services that range from case management and mentoring to financial assistance for housing, education, clothing, employment, and medical needs. Upon their in-take, program participants are assigned to a case manager (CM) who determines what types of goods and services clients need. Often TAM’s in-house services suffice; however, when clients require specialized services, such as medical or substance abuse, the CM refers participants to the appropriate community treatment facility.

In March 2023, TAM opened it’s second location and began a 14-week, job readiness/life skills program known as PASS (Planting A Seed for Success).
