Melissa Riley studied art at Emmanuel College in Boston. She graduated in 1975 with a BA in art and proceeded to spend the next 35 years teaching in the Attleboro School system. After raising two children she began to work with oils on imaginary, somewhat abstract, landscapes. Her work has been exhibited at the AAM, True Grit Art Gallery, Gallery Twist, Zullo Gallery and former Representative Joe Kennedy's office in Washington DC.

"Secret Cove" is of an imaginary place inspired by Riley's favorite beaches in Narragansett, RI. It is painted with oils on canvas. The sky was painted with a palette knife. Although the piece is more realistic than abstract, Riley's hope is to be someday an abstract artist.
