Molly Waite Lund of Essex, CT is a contemporary collage artist known for her surreal, meticulously constructed compositions. Lund transforms vintage magazine imagery into scenes that reinterpret daily life and social relationships, inviting viewers to reconsider their own perceptions of reality. She constructs commentaries that bridge past and present providing both a nostalgic reflection and a contemporary critique of memory, identity, and the evolving nature of visual culture.
"Of the Sea" is a collage featuring the majestic forms of two whales. The background is composed of abstract circular shapes in shades of gray, black, and blue, evoking the tumultuous nature of the ocean. A textured representation of crashing waves adds depth and movement, contrasting with the serene presence of the whales. Viewers are invited to reflect on the beauty and fragility of marine life and the interdependence between these magnificent creatures and their evolving environment.
