Paul Douglas Martins, a native of Attleboro, regularly exhibits with the AAM and was a finalist in the "Reign, Rain, Reign" National Juried Exhibit with his piece "Heaven and Hell." Known for innovation, he develops unique techniques in fluid art, including his popular #CorkscrewTechnique, seen in many works. Aligned with action painting, he takes painting airborne, casting acrylics that intertwine midair before landing in tight corkscrew formations on the canvas.
"Ram's Charge" is an early showcase of the artist's #CorkscrewTechnique, created in 2021. The method appears throughout along with boulder cells (in fluid acrylic pours, these are large 3D cloud like forms) breaking through a golden tree ring poured latex base. Bloom swipes enhance the lower corners, while satin enamel adds body to the paint, morphing into creature-like shapes. Transference appears in the lower left, acrylic skin in the right, and the blob technique creates the eyes.
