Description
Breathtaking views, the infamous hike over the "River of Rocks," and plenty of chances to observe migratory birds are just a few enticing options you must consider when visiting Hawk Mountain Sanctuary for your two-night Adirondacks shelter stay for four. Stay includes use of shelters, Sanctuary admission, and birding information, such as flight and trail guides. "Located along the Appalachian Flyway in east-central Pennsylvania, scenic Hawk Mountain Sanctuary offers visitors an outstanding experience in nature observation with its mountaintop vistas and thrilling migration of nearly 20,000 hawks, eagles and falcons." Birders are sure to be rewarded for their visit. In addition, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary provides the hiker with a variety of trails, from steep inclines and rocky terrain, to boardwalk-lined trails. Some areas are accessible to those with disabilities.
Special Instructions
Those wishing to participate in the overnight stay in the Adirondacks shelters must hike in about .25 mi. from the road. Sleeping bags and ground pads are recommended. Campfires are permitted. To discourage animal intrusion, food should be stored away from camp (preferably in your vehicle) except at mealtime. All materials packed into the Sanctuary with you, should leave the Sanctuary with you; please practice minimal impact camping.
To be arranged at the mutual convenience of the donor and the bidder.
Keith Bildstein, the Sanctuary Director, will give a talk about Hawks or a tour of the eco-friendly buildings (Ecopian Center built with sustainable products such as cork floors, re-used, old barn timbers, and state-of-the-art eco-friendly heating and cooling systems, for example).
The only stipulation is the following: if folks want the talk, it must be pre-arranged to make sure Keith is in town - as he is often travelling bc of bird migration studies, etc.
Offer Expires December 2007.
