Special Instructions

The Freedom Quilting Bee, an outgrowth of the civil rights movement, was established in 1966 in Wilcox County, Alabama, one of the poorest and most isolated counties in America. Their work has been displayed at the Smithsonian Institution and sold in stores in the northeastern United States.

The Bee is a charter member of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund. Its mission is to promote programs that increase income and assist in land retention and development especially for African Americans, but essentially for all family farmers.
