Description

December holiday celebrations are coming! You'll set a table to remember with a handmade set of vividly colored placemats and napkins for eight from the Freedom Quilting Bee. The placemats and napkins are in standard sizes.

The photo shows a placemat pattern in the Bee's traditional bold, colorful pattern. The winning bidder will choose the predominant color for the placemat/napkin set and they will be made by a member of the co-op to those specifications. Please allow 4 weeks for delivery after selection has been made.

Special Instructions

Organized in 1966 in Gee's Bend, AL, as an outgrowth of the Civil Rights movement, the Freedom Quilting Bee has provided its members with a kind of freedom and economic independence they had not before experienced. Most of its founding members were farmers -- sharecroppers -- who in the 1960's became foot soldiers in the fight for civil rights. Their work has been displayed at the Smithsonian Institution and sold in major department stores in the northeastern United States.

The Bee is a charter member of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund. Its mission is to promote programs that increase income and assist in land retention and development especially for African Americans, but essentially for all family farmers. Note: Winning bidder is responsible for paying the cost of shipping.
