One teen's story
At age 15, Leticia felt that she was "in the way" when her father remarried and his new wife brought children of her own into the house. Leticia left home with her boyfriend. For 4 years, they moved across the country working various jobs and living in motels. Leticia's boyfriend left her in a small town in Missouri when he started dating someone else. Leticia walked into a convenience store and asked for help. The woman working behind the counter told her about NRS and gave her the phone number. NRS facilitated a call between Leticia and her father. And with a Home Free ticket, Leticia was on her way home after 4 years of living city to city without family.
