Our History
Founded in 1901 by Mary Harriman in New York City,with the simple mission to give back to a city she loved, help people less fortunate than she, and volunteer her time to improve the quality of life its citizens.
Today, the Association of Junior Leagues International has grown to 296 Leagues in four countries encompassing over 193,000 members sharing a commitment to voluntarism.
Leadership training, organizational development and hands-on experience offer League members an opportunity to implement change in their communities. Membership backgrounds include: attorneys, homemakers, real estate agents, retired social workers, and educators.
