Community Media Center
CMC 2006 Auction
"Local television plays an important role in building community," explains Executive Director Marion Ware, "and it's clear that we need to develop new ways to generate revenue in order to keep our stations alive and vibrant."
Viewers will be able to call in during the live ten hour on-air auction and bid for more than 100 items and services donated by area businesses.
Since 1990, the county's community television stations have been the only ones providing consistent, in-depth coverage of local events -- including the nation's oldest Memorial Day parade, All-County music concerts, and municipal government meetings -- and the only media outlet specifically designed to train local citizens to produce their own programs for broadcast.
"Teaching this technology enables regular people to tell their own stories and have a voice in our community," says Ware. "We want to provide the tools for county residents to help shape our sense of place, and encourage an engaged and informed citizenry. "
In addition to video production training, the CMC offers student internships, equipment and facilities access, and a free electronic community bulletin board.
