Now is your chance to not only add to your art collection but to do it knowing you are helping support to the mission and programs of Hammonds House Museum. Established in 1988 as an institution of artistic and cultural magnitude, children and adults experience the opportunity to gain a wider understanding of the contributions that diverse artists of African descent make to world culture. Lectures/symposia, workshops, demonstrations, panel discussions, youth programming and special events educate, expose and nurture appreciation for the visual and related arts. Art provides the opportunity for students to learn about themselves through confidence building, self-expression, and achievement attainment. Art crosses over barrier differences, teaches respect for other cultures and is an effective means to support learning of other subjects. Therefore Hammonds House Museum promotes and advocates the visual arts as an effective bridge to learning. Children's activities play an important role in perpetuating the mission of our museum by providing vehicles for fostering appreciation and understanding of art and culture while strengthening individual preparedness for connecting and fitting into the world stage of life.
