Artist's note:  "I worked with yearlings while in Kentucky in 1991.  I was inspired to do several equine scenes upon my return to America from 12 years in Prague and used my old photograph for this composition.  A technique which I often return to, which packages the past in the present and carries into the future." 

John Hetzel '82 was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1964 and grew up in nearby Concord. He attended Kent School, and received a BA in History from the University of Virginia. He drew often from a young age, and determined to become a painter after visiting the Uffizi on a graduation trip to Europe, figuring that if one of his paintings could inspire the feelings he felt observing Botticelli's "Primavera" in one person, then he would have lived a successful life.  For complete bio please visit www.johnhetzel.com.
