Description

The Financial Fitness Camp is for high school juniors and seniors interested in being prepared to make good decisions about finance, money, careers, saving, borrowing, car insurance and paying for college. The four-day, three-night interactive camp from June 21-24 is hosted by The Center for Economic and Entrepreneurship Education (CEEE) at Misericordia, under the direction of John Sumansky, Ph.D., chair of the Misericordia University Business Department. The camp is open to students entering 11th and 12th grades.

Thanks to the partnership between Economics PA and CEEE, students will participate in the online Stock Market Game and receive $100,000 in virtual game money to invest with the help of investment professionals, according to Robert Williams, assistant director, CEEE. They will also have the chance to track their investments on line, working in teams. The teachers for the Financial Fitness Camp, Denise Moletto of East Stroudsburg High School, Timothy Micek of Saint Rose Academy, and Alicia Ross of Blue Ridge High School, have crafted an interactive lesson plan that includes games that will help students explore careers in the financial services industry, including banking, mortgage and finance. They will also have an opportunity to practice resume and portfolio building and discuss the educational preparation needed for these careers. A Free Market game will give participants a chance to explore the sales of goods and services, analyze pricing and experience the process of Free Market economics.
