Description
Much fuss has been made over really good Pinots, and these from Williams Selyem are worthy of the press and their ratings in excess of 90 points from the usual suspects. The proprietors of California's original producer of "cult" Pinot Noirs, the early vintages of which were made in a garage, sold the winery in early 1998. Today, the array of wines at Williams Selyem is broader than ever and quality remains high. Sample two bottles each from two different Williams Selyem vineyards. Enjoy two bottles of the Russian River Valley Pinot, reminiscent of blackberries, plums, cloves, black truffle, cola and creme brulee. The rich and broad tannins accentuate blackberry-plummy fruits and complement the creamy, silky, yet fat finish and concentrated berry /spicy flavors. The two bottles of Sonoma County Pinot offer another great take on this sophisticated grape from the same maker. Compare for yourself and try to pick a favorite between these winners from 2005.
