Coton Colors is owned & operated by Laura Johnson. As an artist, Laura is known for her use of vibrant colors, whimsical patterns & fanciful script. Laura is a native Floridian, born & raised in Miami. Her love of art began as a child while experimenting with work in all mediums including drawing, painting & pottery. She resides in Tallahassee, Florida with her husband & three daughters who continue to be the inspiration for much of her work.

Laura began the business in 1989. She hand-painted & sold children’s clothing at retail shows around the South East with her mother & sister alongside. Hand-dying & painting cotton dresses was just the beginning. In 1995, as she painted personalized plates as gifts for her nieces, the idea for expansion clearly emerged. The personalized plates seemed to be the perfect medium to combine her unique images & whimsical script. The popularity of these plates amongst her friends kept her busy painting & firing pottery in her garage.

In July of 1997, she premiered the hand-painted pottery at her first wholesale tradeshow in Atlanta. Laura’s creations were well received & with the full time help of her family, her production studio was in full swing fulfilling wholesale orders in between a busy tradeshow schedule.

Coton Colors continues to experience growth each season. The whimsical handwriting mixed together with bright colors & images are easily recognizable as the Coton Colors brand, within the marketplace. Coton Colors wholesale product lines have expanded to Pottery, Children’s Clothing, Aprons, Pillows & Glass Ornaments over the last 10 years.

In 2006, a new division called Coton Colors Express, was introduced. This division imports hand-painted products designed by Coton Colors. The line currently consists of several top-selling collections that are in-stock & ready to ship. Thanks to the support of loyal customers, Coton Colors is rapidly expanding the Express collections each season with high hopes of continued success.

Today, Coton Colors is a thriving company that includes two busy Florida studios where the products are hand-made & hand-painted, in addition to overseas production. Coton Colors’ products can be seen in over 1300 stores nationwide & is successfully sold in several national catalogs including Neiman Marcus, Horchow & Femail Creations. Coton Colors is also proud to produce a special collection for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which assists in their fund-raising efforts.

Coton Colors continues to create a niche in the gift market. We are eagerly looking to the future to further expand our collections, while continuing to create unique products that are sold in a personal manner. We take pride in our growth, but remain true to our values as a family-run business – dogs & all!
