On January 17, 2009, the Children's Festival Chorus performed "On the Transmigration of Souls" with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh.  John Adams, perhaps the most well-known and most frequently-performed of American living composers, and Composer of the Year for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s 2008-2009 season, composed the piece and conducted this performance
