Cornerstone Day Camp serves boys and girls from rising Kindergarten through rising 6th grades. Founded upon the philosophy of The Cornerstone School, we seek to provide and cultivate educational experiences which allow children to develop their academic, social-emotional, and creative potential. Cornerstone Day Camp environment will foster honesty, trust, openness and respect for the dignity of all people.
Cornerstone Day Camp has its inaugural summer in 2009. Are you ready ... to be original? It is always exciting to start something new. The Cornerstone School has offered limited summer programming in the past. This summer we start fresh. We are currently working to earn membership in The American Camp Association (ACA) and will be seeking accreditation for our camp program.
Our 4 acre Ocala campus provides a prime location for a summer filled with new experiences. We are located within walking distance to three local parks (Brick City, Forrest, and Ritterhoff). Our campus is surrounded by tall trees and offers a wide variety of play spaces. We have shelter when it rains and relief from the heat with air conditioned buildings during hot and steamy Florida afternoons. We will share conversations during lunch in the natural setting of picnic tables nestled under these trees.
The camp community will consist of up to 12 staff members. We plan to select staff with experience and interest in childhood education and outdoor recreation. We anticipate hiring teachers, college students and high school students for a variety of positions. We have the potential to serve 350 children this summer. Our camp will be limited to 50 campers per session. This ensures a quality program, focusing on the needs of the campers. If necessary we will offer a waiting list for each session as it fills.
We encourage everyone attending Cornerstone Day Camp to be dressed appropriately in shorts, T-shirt, closed toed shoes, and sunscreen. It is likely we will get dirty, wet, hot, and even cold. Campers will spend time outside for many of our active nature-based activities. During the rainy summer afternoons we have plenty of covered space for indoor enrichment activities.
