 From the Headmaster...

Here at Doane Academy we strive to strengthen Doane's program and culture, with respect to character development. Note that we talk about character "development" as opposed to character "education" to distinguish our intent to "be" and "do" rather than just intellectualize and simulate. If our recent Rocks, Roots, and Wings trips are any indication of our commitment, we are clearly taking giant steps forward. We sincerely appreciate the response we have had from the students and the support we have had from home. Take some time at home to walk and talk about what is happening at school. We've focused on being respectful and courageous in these first two months. During Spirit Week, we concentrated on the importance of teamwork, enthusiasm, and all of the wonderful things that can happen when we are actively involved in the support of something bigger than ourselves.  As we head into the holidays in November and December we will be focusing on the importance of being thankful, empathetic, and compassionate. Try to reinforce your family's perspective on all of this by what you do. Help make UNICEF successful or support the soup kitchen at Thanksgiving. Make simple sacrifices to generate the donations rather than just taking pocket change off the dresser. Our ultimate goal is to distinguish our students at every grade level and especially our seniors with their positive spirit, their persistence, and their inclination to take the initiative in the face of challenges and opportunities. Test your limits. Realize your full and unique potential. Make a difference in the world. Be Significant!

Make Your Bid to Support The Doane Academy's MISSION!

Now is your chance to not only get all the great items you want, but to do it knowing you are helping support our organization and mission.

Doane Academy is committed to developing intelligent, capable young people within a school culture where students are known, loved, and strongly encouraged to realize their full potential.

The School offers a rigorous liberal arts curriculum and cultivates the development of character, emotional maturity, and standards of ethical conduct as essential to preparation for college and education for life.

Since its founding in 1837, the School has encouraged students to reflect on their relationship with God, to seek truth and to be of significant value to others.

These beliefs guide the life and work at Doane Academy every day:

 Safe and stimulating

Each child has a unique set of talents and interests, which are more fully realized within the safe and stimulating environment of a small school with small classes.

Knowledge, love, and trust

Children who come to know, love and trust themselves tend to be courageous and creative in their work and respectful, honest and compassionate in their relationships.

Essential skills, intellectual curiosity, and academic rigor

Students master essential skills, develop intellectual curiosity and acquire the ability and the desire to continue learning throughout their lives in the context of a rigorous academic and extra-curricular program.

 Respect for differences

Students and faculty with varied talents, interests and perspectives create a stimulating intellectual environment and foster respect and appreciation for differences.

 An educational partnership

Parents and teachers must work as partners to educate children effectively.

 A dedicated faculty

The skills, dedication, and continuity of the faculty and staff are the most important factors in a school's achieving its mission.

 Place, peace, and purpose

A school that commits to a philosophy of life and a code of conduct inspired, at least in part, by a belief in God provides children with a sense of place, peace and purpose.
